Love the description of the Rockies and the history. The only other story I can think of that did it that well was This Land Is Your Land, though it was focused more on the immediate landscape.
I'm intrigued by the reference to K.E. -- it makes me wonder if the part about Alma takes place before she actually meets Ennis.
